On the cover: Superman is tied down in a saw mill. But the saw blades don't affect him as the criminals would like. Don't the criminals know this is the Man of Steel? 

Superman: The day at the Planet begins with Lois being assigned to cover the arrival of a freighter that rescued several millionaires from a shipwrecked yacht, while Clark is to cover Toyman's escape from prison. Lois decides to get a scoop by hiring a boat to take her out to the freighter before it docks, but as she approaches the ship, she notices a number of miniature sailing ships surrounding the freighter. The miniature ships fire tiny cannons at the larger ship, but the cannonballs are actually canisters filled with sleeping gas. After the freighter's passengers and crew are asleep, the Toyman emerges from one of the miniature ships and boards the freighter. However, although there are millions of dollars' worth of jewels and cash in the millionaires' cabins, Toyman steals only a pair of jade cufflinks from one of the passengers. 
When the Planet gets a ship-to-shore call from Lois, Superman heads out to the freighter but the Toyman is ready for him. He sets off a bomb in the hold of the freighter so Superman must save the ship while Toyman escapes. 
That evening, a women's charity is hosting a ball at a millionaire's mansion and Lois and Clark are assigned to cover it. Toyman had convinced the hostess to allow him to display a miniature circus at the ball, but the tiny animal cages contain mice, which Toyman releases into the ballroom causing panic amongst the women. In the confusion, he steals a jade ring from one of the women. Toyman again distracts Superman by starting a fire while he escapes. 
Next, Toyman sabotages a railway bridge in an attempt to stop a train so he can board it and commit another theft. However, the train's engineer doesn't spot that the bridge is out until it is too late to stop, so Superman has to hold up the bridge while the train passes over. Since Toyman was unable to board the train, Superman goes on board and discovers that a passenger has another piece of jade jewellery that the Toyman was after. Superman tracks down the jeweller who sold all the jade items and discovers that he unknowingly got them from Jack Jones, a notorious bandit who was in prison with Toyman. The jade pieces, when put together, form a map showing where Jones buried his treasure. After a final confrontation with Toyman, Superman rescues Lois and puts Toyman back in prison.
